Aqaba

(If I laid out my blog the way Kate does hers, the caption for this post would read: "...in which Nikki discovers that she's rubbish at snorkeling.")

There was rather a lot of pissing and moaning yesterday about having to leave at 6AM, but the complaining turned to rejoicing once we realized that we were taking the two air-conditioned vans instead of our cramped little kindergarten school bus.

That said, even air conditioning doesn't make a four-hour drive through the desert any less boring.

I sat in the backseat between Max and Nicole, and somewhere in the vicinity of Kerak, they decided simultaneously that I would make a fantastic pillow. Max, who had been dozing with his chin against his chest, slumped over onto my left shoulder just as Nicole started cuddling up to my right. It was a long ride.

But it was worth it to get here:

Aqaba is beautiful. In that second picture, you can see the shadow of Egypt's coastline.

We went snorkeling at the Royal Diving Club. I wasn't very good, and despite the fact that the coral and brightly-coloured fish were super neat, I decided that approximately one litre of salt water was quite enough for my poor little lungs and promptly retired my snorkeling gear.

The pool was better, anyway.
